Understanding your Abs! AKA How to get a strong core and six pack using Performa Ball.

There's more to your body than just your abdominal muscles but they're the ones on show and we want them looking their best. To understand how to get a six pack, you need to understand the muscles that help the process along.

Rectus abdominus

These are the most superficial abdominal muscles and are responsible for the 6 pack look. They are very strong flexors of the spine.

Internal and external obliques

These muscles are on the side and are under the rectus abdominus and responsible for flexion and rotation of the spine.

Transversus abdominus

This muscle is the deepest of your four abdominal muscles. It is responsible for keeping the internal organs in there place. These muscles are involved in forceful breathing out. Bad transversus = bad posture.

Multifidus

Often ignored, this is often the muscle responsible for any back pain you have. Directly attached to the spine, it's a muscle you don't want to take for granted.

Erector spinae

Found neighbouring the spine, you can hold this muscle responsible for giving you correct curvature of the spine and holding you upright.

Psoas muscles

Count on this muscle for stabilising the spine base, allowing your spine and the hip to flex.  Stretching this muscle is a must!

MRI Scans

The scans below illustrate bad and good muscle development. Notice the degree of muscle development and fat content.
